Mold Maintenance Products to Protect Your Investment and Improve Your Thermoplastic Operations
Chem-Trend has developed a broad portfolio of Lusin® brand mold maintenance products for the thermoplastics industry. This portfolio is the result of more than 50 years of Lusin® heritage, working directly with thermoplastic processors, understanding their challenges and creating products that address their shop floor challenges.
Our mold maintenance line encompasses:
- Cleaners (including Degreasers)
- Protective Agents (including Rust Preventatives)
Chem-Trend is constantly working on the development of new products to meet shifting global standards. As we strive to meet the needs of our customers around the world we are always looking to formulate for the future in anticipation of the trends affecting the thermoplastics industry. Our mold maintenance products:
- Perform multi-functional roles, helping you reduce cost and complexity by providing you with one product that can accomplish multiple tasks.
- Help with machine start-up, reduce scrap rates and produce more efficiently.
- Are available in non-silicone formulations to allow for usage in high temperature applications.
- Are available in NSF registered varieties.
Chem-Trend mold cleaners are designed to remove deposits of thermoplastic resins, colors and miscellaneous additives from molds or other metal surfaces (watch a video see how effective they are). Degreasers also remove contaminants (e.g. waxes, oils, greases) from metal, glass or plastic surfaces without attacking or etching them. Lusin® cleaners are designed to dissolve polymers with the exception of PP and PE. Chem-Trend provides its thermoplastic cleaners in aerosol spray cans instead of bulk form. This is a decision made based on the advantage to the customer. The cleaners can be applied very exactly to where the cleaning is required, optimizing the amount of product necessary to clean polymers. Chem-Trend has developed a line of Lusin® lubricants (watch a video to see how they can help your operations) specifically for injector pins and locator plugs used within plastic injection molding industries. The application of our lubricants eliminates and prevents the breakage and seizing of ejector pins. The heavy duty lubricating film offers outstanding performance under conditions of extreme pressure and loading on all moving and mechanical parts. The residual film will displace moisture and provide excellent lubrication and protection against corrosion. Using Lusin® lubricants will avoid a transfer of lubricant from the ejector pin to the final part. Protective agents are used to protect metal surfaces against the attack of water, oxygen or other corrosive agents which are commonly known as contributing factors of rust (click here to watch a video for more on our protective agents). Corrosion not only damages metal surfaces but also weakens, and finally destroys, their properties. Currently anticorrosion agents are based on oils or waxes that are combined with highly active corrosion inhibitors. The best results can be obtained when the mold is clean and dry. In order to achieve this, Lusin® mold cleaner and Lusin® degreaser should be used in that order. Lusin® protective agents are easy to apply and provide long corrosion protection. One of the major challenges to the effective use of a protective agent is to apply the protective materials in a homogeneous layer. Chem-Trend offers protective materials which allow you to visually see if the complete surface has been covered.
Chem-Trend’s Lusin® protective materials do not need to be removed before production starts. Simply assemble the mold and start the production. Our protective materials will work for a couple of shots as a release agent and then will simply be removed by the production process. If the cost of the part being produced is significant, and therefore the first shot must be high quality (no scrap), then the protective material can be removed easily prior to the run by using Lusin® degreaser. Get answers to frequently asked questions on protective agents and read our Mold Maintenance Products brochure for more detailed information.
