Inside Tire Paints
Inside tire paints are applied to the inner liner of uncured tires to provide the necessary slip required to allow the curing bladder (membrane) to locate easily inside the uncured tire during the shaping process. High slip at this point of the process aids the bladder to conform to the contour of the inside of the tire, thus ensuring a well-centered tire and the elimination of trapped air. All these factors are important in ensuring minimal curing defect levels and optimum tire uniformity. At the end of the curing cycle Chem-Trend’s inside tire paints provide the effective release needed to remove the tire from the bladder without problem.
The use of an inside paint is necessary in the manufacture of high quality uniform tires.

Filled Inside Tire Paints
Chem-Trend’s advanced filled inside tire paints have been specifically formulated to provide maximum levels of slip as well as air bleed during the shaping process to ensure defect free tires. The shaping process is the point when the curing bladder is initially inflated inside the tire. A high level of slip is needed to ensure the tire is centered on the curing bladder, thus ensuring good tire uniformity. Special fillers are incorporated into the formulation of this family of products to help evacuate any air that becomes trapped between the tire and the curing bladder during the shaping process at the start of the curing cycle. At the end of the curing cycle, Chem-Trend filled inside tire paints provide the release needed to efficiently and cleanly remove the tire from the curing bladder.
These products are intended to be applied to the inside of each tire prior to the curing process. Application to the inside of the tire may be by various automated or hand-held spray methods, brush application or by wiping with a sponge. The actual application selected by any given customer depends on equipment availability and individual tire plant logistics. The most common method of applying the products is by automated spray systems.
Specialty Filled Inside Tire Paints
Chem-Trend recently introduced a new family of high performance water-based filled inside paints based on a unique blend of raw materials. The carefully balanced ratios of these components allow users to employ lower coating weights (compared to conventional filled inside tire paints), which improves finished tire appearance. Even at these lower coating weights an ever-growing list of customers are reporting greatly reduced inside tire-paint related defect levels and a significantly enhanced bladder life when compared with the results of competitive products. This family of products is particularly helpful in meeting the specific manufacturing challenges and customer appearance demands for high quality, premium run-flat and UHP tires.
Unfilled Inside Tire Paints
Chem-Trend pioneered the development of unfilled inside paints. These products are applied to the inside of each tire prior to the curing process, and because they do not contain any filler they help to provide the optimum cosmetic appearance to the finished tire. They provide outstanding slip, required to ensure good tire uniformity, and the release needed to remove the tire from the bladder at the end of the cure cycle. When using these products the pattern on the surface of the curing bladder is utilized to provide the air-bleed needed to eliminate any air entrapped between the tire inner liner and the bladder during the shaping process. Application to the inside of the tire may be by various automated or hand-held spray methods, brush application or by wiping with a sponge. The actual application selected by any given customer depends on equipment availability and individual plant logistics. The most common method of applying the products is by automated spray systems.
Because they do not contain any filler, optimum tire appearance is achieved with the inner and outer surfaces of the tires appearing clean. Any material that is accidentally transferred to the bead face or outer sidewall of the tire through over-spray, or by operators handling the freshly treated uncured tires, will not visibly mark the tire. The inner liner of the finished tire looks extremely clean in the racks of tire sales outlets, an important feature in many markets. OE customers appreciate the clean appearance of the tires.
Durable Inside Tire Paints
Durable inside tire paints are specifically developed to transfer to the surface of the curing bladder to provide a reservoir of slip-and-release functionality, allowing the release of multiple untreated tires between applications. The actual number of untreated tires between applications is determined by the logistics of each individual tire plant and the choice of its management. Chem-Trend works in close partnership with its customers to help provide the solution that best fits the requirements of their particular plant. The typical ranges in which these products are applied are between every third tire and every twelve tires.
Because these products are not applied to each tire they bring some specific benefits and attractions to tire plants. These include:
- The possibility of eliminating the large spray booths associated with the application of inside tire paint to each tire. This allows for the space they occupy and the labor they employ to be dedicated to more efficient use within the tire manufacturing process.
- Plants planning significant increases in production output can consider achieving this without the need to invest in expanding their capacity to spray tires, something that would usually be required when spraying each tire.
- Lower raw material usage, meaning less inventory and less space required to store that inventory.
- Very clean finished tire appearance.
As with the various spray-every-tire inside tire paints the application of durable inside tire paints may be by various automated or hand-held spray methods including spin-disk. These products may also be applied using a brush application or by wiping with a sponge nearby the curing press. The actual application selected by any given customer depends on equipment availability and individual plant logistics. The most common method of applying the products is by automated spray systems.
